CYPRUS SUMMER 1974
July 15th 1974.
On a beautiful summer morning Cyprus wakes up to the sounds of war. As a teenager of thirteen my first thoughts were to pick up a pen and write down events as they unfolded in front of me. beginning with shots fired outside the bedroom window as the Presidential Palace was overthrown by a military backed Junta, detailing the Turkish invasion and ending with The death of the American Ambassador, the diary is a simple, up-close account of war seen through a teenager's eyes.
In July 1974, to commemorate forty years passing, the diary was enlarged and displayed to the public in an installation at Apotheke Gallery in Nicosia, Cyprus.
Cyprus Summer 1974 is now a short film based on the diary with personal and political background to the events that led up to the war and the ramifications that followed.
